Foot Pain and Diabetes

Diabetic Feet :

Foot pain can verily be caused by any amount of reasons. However, foot pain resulting from diabetes is both painful and very coarse for those living with diabetes.

Diabetes and foot pain is generally defined by four separate types.

Diabetic Feet :Foot Pain and Diabetes

A nerve qoute (where the nerves themselves are affected by the disease) called peripheral neuropathy is the most coarse source of foot pain tied to diabetes. Peripheral neuropathy comes in the form of sensory, motor, and autonomic neuropathy.

Sensory neuropathy is the most coarse and is defined by symptoms where the amount of pain is much greater than the source that is causing the pain. As an example, just touching, or lightly pulling on your socks triggers a painful reaction. Also, with sensory neuropathy you may perceive some dullness along with tingling, burning, or even stabbing type pain symptoms.

Because blood sugar can be a player in this type of pain, check your blood sugar levels for the past some weeks to see if maybe there is an upward trend toward high levels.

Relief is of the utmost significance in these cases and can come from varied applications. Massaging your feet or using a foot roller can sometimes drop the level of pain. Anything you can do from a shoe perspective such as cushioned supports and inserts can sustain as well. Anything to help mitigate the pressure and pounding of daily activities on the foot and/or any rubbing or chaffing is beneficial. There are also designate drugs that your doctor can advise that will often times work.

When the nerves to the muscles become affected by diabetes (motor neuropathy), your muscles will begin to feel weak and achy. Although the smaller muscles of the feet aren't usually the first to be affected, your balance can at last become affected which may cause alignment problems and/or rubbing on the feet which ultimately results in pain. Support, exercise, stretching, and massage are your best weapon against motor neuropathy. Holding your muscles healthy and flexible is a key element in relieving this type of foot pain.

Autonomic neuropathy affects the nerves that we don't consciously control, hence the 'auto' of autonomic. With this condition existing your sweating triggers are altered and as such you may suffer from dry or cracked skin. For your feet this may follow in a build up of foot calluses, thickened nails and such that lead to foot pain. The daily use of conditioning agents formulated specifically for diabetes can aid or prevent this problem.

With diabetic citizen permissible circulation is a former concern. Circulation problems in the feet can cause severe pain. Addressing circulation problems should all the time be done in conjunction with your healing doctor. varied approaches may comprise an exercise program, corporal therapy, medication, or even surgical procedures, but again, consult with your doctor before considering any strategy that involves addressing a circulation issue.

With diabetic citizen muscle and joint pain is not uncommon. If tendons and joints begin to stiffen coupled with imbalances linked with peripheral neuropathy and walking alignment occurs, the foot and the joints become painful. In fact, if the walking misalignments continue, this can lead to other foot disorders such as corns, bunions, and hammertoe.

People living with diabetes are more susceptible to infections within their body because of the changes that have taken place in their body. If a bacterial infection attacks the foot, the foot can become red, perceive swelling, feel warm, and be painful. Holding the immune principles as healthy as possible by controlling your blood sugar, permissible nutrition, and exercise, should be a top priority in your defense against infections.

If you are afflicted with diabetes, in increasing to being mindful of the above information, work closely with your former care doctor to ensure that you receive permissible information and care for your personal situation.

Localized Itching As a Complication of Diabetes

Diabetic Feet :

Diabetes. It's not a fun thing. It's a life-long disease evident by high blood sugar levels. Its destructive hand can restrain anybody from doing tedious and necessary daily tasks. You have diabetes and one of its dreaded complications - localized itching, and it's driving you crazy!

Let's answer some of your questions you might have about localized itching so you can move on with your life... Itch-free!

Are diabetics more prone to having localized itching than non-diabetics?

Diabetic Feet :Localized Itching As a Complication of Diabetes

Sadly yes. Localized itching is one of many complications of diabetes. The conjecture for this is because diabetes causes poor circulation, which causes the itchiest area to be the lower parts of the legs. Approximately one-third of all diabetics produce some type of skin disorder because of poor circulation. Not only are diabetics more prone to localized itching, but they are also more prone to bacterial and fungal infections, and many other medical ailments.

What are the risk factors for being diagnosed with diabetes?

There are many risk factors for being diagnosed with diabetes, such as:

1. Aging greater than 45 years.
2. Being obese.
3. Having a house history of diabetes.
4. Delivering a baby weighing over nine pounds.
5. Having gestational diabetes.
6. Having high blood pressure.
7. Having high blood cholesterol levels.
8. Ethnic groups (particularly African-Americans and Hispanic Americans).

What can I do if I have terrible localized itching?

o The bad news is that stress and emotional upsets make itching worse. In this world, stress is a part of daily life! However, the good news: you can ease stress by accommodating to your needs and setting aside time each day to just relax. Deliberately make time for yourself each and every day, if need be, to escape the stress that could be triggering your localized itching.

o Because most itching and skin conditions can be prevented or well treated if caught at its earliest stage, it's prominent to pay specific concentration to your skin, especially on your legs, and be on the look-out before itching becomes worse.

How can I prevent localized itching from disrupting my life?

There are seven things you can do to keep localized itching to a minimum or to never happen again!

1. Avoid daily baths, especially when the humidity is low.
2. Leave a tiny bit of water on your skin after drying off.
3. Pat (don't rub) dry after bathing.
4. Use a humidifier at home.
5. Use a moisture-holding ointment or cream after bathing.
6. Use gentle moisturizing soap.
7. Use lukewarm water when bathing.

Is there whatever else out there that can help my diabetes to stay in control so I don't have to go through the annoying localized itching?

Tattoos and Diabetes

Diabetic Feet :

I was recently asked a interrogate on our website that I conception deserved a lengthy answer.
J.C. Of Buffalo, Ny asks: "I have diabetes and I take insulin. Is there any reason I should be involved about getting a tattoo?"

So, J.C, you're mental about getting a tattoo, but you have diabetes. Is this a good idea? Well, in most cases it's not a problem. But there are some things you should be mental about before while and after the inking process.

During my 18 years in podiatric institution I conception I had seen everything, that is until one day I was called to the urgency group for a consultation. A 45 year old female diabetic sick person decided to get a tattoo on the top of her foot. She said she conception nothing of it at the time. It was a rendering of her late cat whom she loved so much. About 3 days after the inking she began to institute some redness colse to the site. She followed the directions given to her, but the redness got worse. She applied more ointment but now she could see the redness spreading away from the tattoo. She consulted her tattoo artist who intuitively had her call her doctor who sent her immediately to the urgency department.

Diabetic Feet :Tattoos and Diabetes

A tattoo for all practical purposes is an intentional wound. This young woman had gotten an infection and because she had the circulation of an 80 year old and because of neuropathy she did not feel any pain. What she did have was an abscess on the top of her foot. This led to the circulation becoming worse leading to gangrene of the toes. She finally lost half her foot. I was able to save the remaining foot, by cleaning out the infected bone and soft tissue, and using high tech state of the art wound curative products and treatments.

Let's discuss a puny about diabetes first. Diabetes is the leading cause of non-traumatic foot and leg amputations in the United States and almost 14 to 24 percent of patients with diabetes who institute a foot ulcer and infections go on to have an amputation. Research, however, has shown that the improvement of a foot ulcer is preventable.

Anyone who has diabetes can institute a foot ulcer or an infection. Native Americans, African Americans, Hispanics and older men are more likely to institute ulcers. People who use insulin are at a higher risk of developing a foot ulcer, as are patients with diabetes-related kidney, eye, and heart disease. Being overweight and using alcohol and tobacco also play a role.

Diabetic complications institute due to a blend of factors, such as lack of feeling in the foot, poor circulation, foot deformities, irritation (such as friction or pressure), and trauma, as well as period of diabetes. Patients who have diabetes for many years can institute neuropathy, a reduced or complete lack of feeling in the feet and legs due to nerve damage caused by elevated blood sugar levels over time. The nerve damage often can occur without pain and one may not even be aware of the problem. "

"Vascular disease can complicate a curative tattoo, reducing the body's ability to heal and expanding the risk for an infection. Elevations in blood glucose can cut the body's ability to fight off a inherent infection and also slow down the whole curative process."

Most tattoos do not get infected; however if your doctor diagnoses an infection, a treatment program of antibiotics, wound care, and maybe hospitalization will be necessary.
necessary.

The science of wound care has industrialized significantly over the past ten years. The old conception of "let the air get at it" is now known to be harmful to healing. We know that wounds along with tattoos and ulcers heal faster, with a lower risk of infection, if they are kept covered and moist. The use of full drive betadine, peroxide, whirlpools and soaking are not recommended, as this could lead to additional complications.

Appropriate wound administration includes the use of dressings and topically-applied medications. These range from general saline to industrialized products that have been shown to be extremely efficient in curative problem tattoos.
For a tattoo to heal there must be enough circulation to the inked area. A circulation master (vascular surgeon) or a podiatrist can rule circulation levels in the feet and legs with noninvasive tests.
Healing time depends on a variety of factors, such as tattoo size and location, pressure on the area from walking or standing, swelling, circulation, blood glucose levels, wound care, and what is being applied to the wound. curative may occur within weeks or wish some months.

The old saying, "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure" was never as true as it is when preventing a diabetic tattoo complication.

It is also known in England as "cheese rennet" because the juice that is extracted from the green parts of the plant is used for making cheese and clotting milk. Some doctors do not propose this use of the plant, however, because its effect on infants is not known. Galegine is an alkaloid that has been isolated from goat's rue - it lowers blood sugar levels and thus may be useful in fighting diabetes mellitus. How to Get great Sleep Using These Ten Tips

Diabetic Feet :

How do you get good sleep? This is one other area that is greatly affected by our modern lifestyle - especially if you live in a city that doesn't sleep!

Have you ever had this problem? You want to sleep, you're tired. However, no sooner than you drift off into slumberland, you have get up to urinate. So you say, Ok. I won't drink any water late in the day, that way my bladder won't fill up so easy.

Ha! You fall asleep again, but you wake up with a searing thirst. Your throat is dry! That is diabetes out of control. That was my actual feel a few years ago.

Diabetic Feet :How to Get great Sleep Using These Ten Tips

So how do you even begin to get good sleep? The idea here is to cooperate with the body's natural circadian rhythm. Our bodies know the incompatibility in the middle of night and day, regardless of what the clock on the wall says. At nights the body prepares for mend processes and sure hormones are released then that are not released to the same extent while the day.

If we cooperate with our biorhythm, our bodies do a good job at repairing damaged tissues. Where do these damages come from? Well, there are always free radicals being produced as a result of normal metabolic activity. These originate some damage - it's called growing old - and it happens either or not we like it.

If we understand, appreciate, and cooperate with our bodies in handling these catabolic and anabolic processes we will have healthier bodies. So...

  1. Go to bed early and at the same time each night. It is said that every hour of sleep before midnight is twice as beneficial as an hour after midnight.
  2. Get 6 - 8 hours of sleep each night
  3. It's best to sleep in the dark. It increases melatonin production.
  4. Avoid caffeine - drop coffee
  5. Don't use alcohol as a sedative. Why? Because it makes the brain restless later on in the night
  6. Exercise early in the morning (if at all possible), but no later than 3 hours before bedtime
  7. Eat your evening meal at least 4 hours before bedtime
  8. Use a warm foot bath for relaxation. For example, immerse your feet in a basin of warm water for a few minutes. You will feel the sleep coming - it's then time to go to bed.
  9. Maintain as quarterly a program as possible; that includes going to bed, waking, exercising, eating, etc.
  10. Handle disturbing problems earlier in the day if possible. At that time you should be more emotionally rested. Do not wait until bedtime to bring up problems

Life is like a candle. You may have more light (fun) if you burn it at both ends simultaneously, but is sure doesn't last as long. A common practice of most centenarians is that that they always had a practice of going to bed early.

We should strive real hard to get good sleep. If our illness keeps us up, we can work at remedying the condition. If it's just a habit, these tips should be helpful. Sleep well.

How to Get Rid of Excess Sweat

Diabetic Feet :

If being in even a slightly warm room makes you sweat like a hippo and leaves you with mountainous underarm rings so damp you could actually mop up the bathroom floor with them, help is at hand.

Most habitancy who sweat to excess say they've tried all to rid themselves of that embarrassing perspiration problem, from trying out a vast array of deodorants and antiperspirants to purchasing hundred of creams, potions and other "cures" that promise to make them sweat-free and smelling like a baby (in a clean diaper, of course).

But now there are three ways to get rid of your smelly minuscule secret: Botox, surgery and galvanic shock therapy. While the first isn't permanent, it can change your life overnight - for a few months. The second, while more drastic and infinitely more costly, can have you cured forever - even if your over-active sweat glands are not confined to the underarm area. And the third works for most people, although regular top-up treatments will probably be necessary.

Diabetic Feet :How to Get Rid of Excess Sweat

What is Excess Sweating?

Everyone sweats sometimes, when we run up a hill in the hot sun, work out at the gym or wear a wool sweater while having sex in a room with no windows in blistering 112-degree Fahrenheit tropical heat. Sweating is a natural body function that helps our skin cool down, and we need that function in order for our bodies to work and accomplish properly.

We sweat in a range of areas on the body, but especially in places where our skin can actually rub against other patches of skin, such as the underarms, the groin and in the middle of or underneath the breasts. Such sweating is normal and even healthy, it's when we sweat to an excess degree - and feel unduly embarrassed about it - that it can be a problem.

Known in curative parlance as hyperhidrosis, excess or profuse sweating is a curative condition that arises due to a whole of reasons. Agreeing to the Mayo Clinic, most patients with the condition saw it begin at age 20 or above, may have house members with it, and have it usually affecting their hands and feet. Before a exact diagnosis can be made, however, other conditions, such as hyperthyroidism and diabetes, must be ruled out.

People with hyperhidrosis can sweat so much that they have constantly sweaty palms, a wet shirt, or beads of perspiration running down their face. thinkable, though it may seem, some perspire so profusely that they become scared to leave the house in order to avoid embarrassment, or only leave their homes when actually necessary, avoiding all public situations and becoming virtual recluses.

Possible Cures

There are any ways to get rid of your sweaty minuscule problem. They are:

* Botox

* Surgical removal of Sweat Glands

* Sympathectomy

* Iontophoresis

Botox. That popular poison most well known for paralyzing facial muscles and thus (temporarily) getting rid of the appearance of wrinkles, can also help cure immoderate sweating. It works by blocking the chemical transmitters which cause us to sweat.

The most base places to have Botox to cure sweating are the underarms, although it is sometimes used on the soles of the feet or the palms of the hand. However, it is very painful to have Botox on your palms, and is not as yet Fda-approved for that part of the body.

Some habitancy have Botox as a one-off - if they are planning their wedding, for example, and don't want to ruin their dress or appear as if they had just been fished out of the champagne bowl when standing at the altar. For others, it's a regular part of their condition and beauty routine, having top-ups on a regular basis.

Surgical removal of sweat glands. Often recommended for patients who sweat excessively only from their armpits. As scars may result, which can impede the request for retrial of your shoulders, some habitancy opt to have the glands removed via liposuction instead, which leaves a lot less scarring.

Sympathectomy, or Thoracic Sympathectomy. A surgical policy which involves cutting the sympathetic nerve chain, responsible for, among other things, both blushing and sweating. While some patients find themselves thoroughly cured, others find that after a while they suffer from compensatory sweating in other areas.

A sympathectomy is thought about to be the most popular surgical formula for this problem. However, there is a lot of controversy about its effectiveness, and also either the potential side effects are worth it. If you are inspecting this surgery, it's important to do a lot of homework beforehand. For some habitancy it has revolutionized their lives; for others, it has only made things worse.

Please note also that there are any types of sympathectomies - and even a sympathotomy - which vary, in general Agreeing to how the nerves are cut. Discuss all options with your surgeon to see which one is best for you.

Iontophoresis. This bizarre technique involves blocking the sweat glands with galvanic currents. Patients place their hands and feet in extra trays of water, while an galvanic current is run through them. Nobody knows exactly how it works, but scientists think the mineral content of the water combined with the electricity thicken the skin, thus disallowing the sweat flow to its surface.

Patients must sit for up to 40 minutes at a time every second day for up to ten days until they are comfortable with their sweating level. It must be repeated about once a month to keep up the effect. In some cases, patients buy a machine for home use. Sometimes the water is too soft to have the desired effect, so a substance may be bought to add to the water and make it suitable.

Iontophoresis is not convenient for habitancy with inevitable conditions such as having a pacemaker, for pregnant women and for others with specific conditions. Consult a doctor first!

Prevention best than Cure

For some people, topical and oral medications may cure their excess sweating. There are any types of prescription antiperspirants available, each containing extra ingredients such as tannic acid or a formalin solution, and there are also calcium blockers and anti-inflammatory drugs which work in some cases. In situations where excess sweating is caused by anxiety, anti-depressants and tranquilizers may do the trick.

Nobody should feel they have to go through life in a sweat-covered fog. If you are constantly feeling all hot and bothered, speak to person about which policy of performance you should take. It may involve surgery, it may be as simple as getting a prescription antiperspirant. Or you may just need to have the air conditioning fixed in your office...

The facts in the description is not intended to substitute for the curative expertise and guidance of your condition care provider. We encourage you to discuss any decisions about treatment or care with an thorough curative professional.

Joint Pain Causes and finding a Remedy

Diabetic Feet :

Joint pain can be truly annoying, especially when you're at your seclusion age and you just want to enjoy your life. It could have been your opportunity to relive your youth and dance freely as a teenager, but those joints of yours just wouldn't ride on. There's no use to being mad, it is, after all, inevitable. And when your joints can't carry on to go with the flow, then you yourself should just go with the flow. Just deal with that arthritis with a inevitable mind.

When you have arthritis, the connective tissue of the joints, called the cartilage, undergoes degeneration, thus, causing it to wear out. This tissue is responsible in retention the plane movement of the bones, and preventing the tendencies of them rubbing against each other. So, with the cartilage worn out, there is nothing to implement these preventive measures. As a result, a person with arthritis suffers from pain, stiff and inflamed joints.

Most coarse it may be, but arthritis isn't the only potential cause for experiencing joint pains. There are a lot more causes. Some are just mild like injuries and sprains, while there are some which, when left untreated, can finally lead to one's death.

Diabetic Feet :Joint Pain Causes and finding a Remedy

Bursitis is another coarse cause of joint pain. It is sometimes belief of as arthritis because of some similarities in the symptoms, but if we look at the inner picture, that is where the big disagreement lie. While arthritis is caused by malfunctioning inside the joints, bursitis, on the other hand, has malfunctioning face of the joint, spirited the fluid-filled cavities that surround it which are known as bursa. For person who has bursitis, these cavities come to be inflamed, most ordinarily because of physical strain.

Another cause of joint pain is that of gout. This occurs when there is an excessive build up of uric acid surrounding the joint. The excess is brought about by the fact that the kidney is unable to get rid of the extra whole of uric acid. The legs and the feet area is ordinarily the target of the pain attacks as a consequence of the condition. Though it may be seen as a relatively small qoute by some, but it can absolutely be a trace of more serious condition problems that one could be suffering from, such as obesity, sickle-cell anemia, kidney problems and diabetes.

Another disease, this time, one that is most coarse among women than men, is the autoimmune disorder called lupus. This continuing disease causes inflammation of the organs, possibly the joints. In the Us, practically 90 % of recorded lupus patients are women. This disease causes destruction in the human body by confusing the immune system. It causes the antibodies to be produced in excess amounts, adequate to destroy not only the harmful cells, but the general cells too.

Joint pain, when accompanied by some alarming symptoms like red dots or rashes, high fever, colds, coughs etc., can be a cause of alarm. It might mean that the sick person is already suffering from an infection caused by virus. It could be rubella, influenza or other associated diseases.

It's all the time good to keep a close watch for occurrences of other potential symptoms and also to visit a doctor to avoid complications.

Diabetes Signs and Symptoms - Detect and safe Yourself Or Your Child Now

Diabetic Feet :

Most habitancy wholly ignore diabetes signs and symptoms. This can be a deadly decision. It is estimated that nearly 27% of the habitancy has this disease (either diagnosed, undiagnosed or pre-diabetes). Ignoring the easy to look for symptoms does not make it go away. In fact, it makes you more and more likely to lose your life to it. And as you will see at the end of this article, it can very speedily kill you.

I myself ignored all the classic signs and was within two weeks of dying when a chiropractor as a matter of fact recognized it as diabetes and sent me to a doctor right away for treatment. So what are the diabetes signs and symptoms you can look for yourself or your child former to seeking a healing opinion?

Thirst and Frequent Urination

Diabetic Feet :Diabetes Signs and Symptoms - Detect and safe Yourself Or Your Child Now

Perhaps the easiest way to tell if you have out-of-control diabetes is to watch for an inordinate thirst and subsequently frequent urination. Before I was diagnosed I had such a thirst that even after drinking a gallon of water would not go away. It would be followed by having to visit the restroom 20 to 40 times a day. Talk about embarrassing.

Tired All the Time

Another inescapable indication of illness is constant tiredness or fatigue. habitancy often mistake out-of-control diabetes with Fibromyalgia, Mononucleosis, the Flu and other diseases because of the tiredness and weakness it creates. You may also feel nauseous like you have the flu. A high blood sugar level will make you feel bad in normal (like when you told your parents, "I don't feel so good todayl").

Hungry All the Time

Your cells need constant power in the form of glucose. The problem with diabetes is that the sugar is not getting into the cells and instead stays in the bloodstream. ultimately the sugar is eliminated straight through the urine - but not before taking a very damaging route.

Because your body is not getting the power it needs, it tries to take in more and more food to compensate. It is a destructive circle because the sugar crystals in your bloodstream are like wee razors inside the vessels. Destroying your eyes, kidneys, feet, nerves and just about everything else becomes their task. And this is where most long term diabetic complications come from.

Rapid Weight Loss

Weight loss is the corollary of your body dumping most of its internal glucose (all food turns to glucose in the body or is eliminated). I lost over 30 pounds in a few months despite hitting the Las Vegas buffets a wee too often. Doesn't sound like such a bad indication of illness but you are doing improbable damage to your body to lose this weight. If you are in this stage, you are also likely in a health called 'Ketoacidosis' and are weeks from dying.

Headaches

A headache can be a common indication of illness -- but if it's mixed with some of the former symptoms, find a doctor right away. It will ultimately kill you. What is happening is because sugar is not getting to your brain cells. Oxygen is also not getting to them and creates swelling of the brain.

Hair Loss

One of the most unfortunate symptoms of diabetes is unexpected hair loss. Right before I was diagnosed, I was roughly pulling clumps of hair out. It speedily stopped and reversed once I was started on insulin.

Conclusion

They should teach diabetes instruction to every child as a required class so that when they begin to see the classic diabetes signs and symptoms in their bodies, they know to seek healing advice before it is too late.

My nephew of 16 years old as a matter of fact died from undiagnosed diabetes. He had the classic diabetes signs and symptoms. After being rushed to the hospital one night they found he had a blood sugar level (how much sugar is in the bloodstream) 17 times the normal amount.

Death speedily resulted from his brain swelling. His body could not right itself even after medication. Do not let this happen to your kids or yourself. Type 2 Diabetes and the Benefits Gained From Repairing Blood Vessels!

Diabetic Feet :

There is good news on the effectiveness of medicine for Type 2 diabetes. Agreeing to an article published in Diabetologia, August 2010, operate of Type 2 diabetes with manifold drugs and lifestyle changes might help to heal blood vessels.

Workers at the Steno Diabetes Center in Denmark looked at cells that mend the insides of blood vessels in twenty eight population with Type 2 diabetes. Type 2 diabetics are known for having a reduced number of vessel repairing cells and a high risk for heart and blood vessel disease.

How does this damage occur?

When there is too much sugar circulating in the blood, it can clog up small blood vessels by any different methods. The lining of these vessels does not have the quality to say 'no' to the sugar... This leads to clogging of the cells' energy-management process. This results in increased free radicals, sugar attached to proteins and other damaging compounds.

Injured blood vessels:

  • in the eyes can cause blindness
  • in the kidneys can cause kidney failure
  • in the nerves, this can lead to neuropathy
  • can influence the circulation in your extremities

But high insulin levels also tends to cause circulation problems, called large blood vessel disease. Now this involves the coronary arteries and the heart itself... Not the eyes, or kidneys.

Results of the Research:

During the study at the Steno Diabetes Center in Denmark, drug medicine and lifestyle modification were aimed at controlling:

  • blood sugar levels
  • blood pressure,
  • cholesterol and fats in the blood and
  • preventing heart and blood vessel disease

After 90 days of treatment, blood sugar and cholesterol levels were seen to improve. Blood vessel repairing cells were higher after 90 days in the treated diabetics, than in the group of untreated diabetics in the operate group.

Disease resulting from blood vessel damage include:

  • diabetic retinopathy, the commonest cause of preventable blindness in the developed world, is caused when the small vessels in the back of the eye are severely damaged. As the walls weaken, outpouchings called microaneurysms form and they can burst and bleed. Smaller vessels can close down. Then the retina is unable to get the oxygen and nutrients it needs and retinopathy is the result. Sometimes the retina can come to be detached
  • glaucoma, other cause of blindness can also form when damaged blood vessels growth pressure inside the eye. Increased pressure can cause damage to the optic nerve, the nerve that carries messages from the eye to the brain
  • poor circulation in the extremities can cause diabetic ulcers and bone infections as well as gangrene. This is why amputation, particularly of the feet, is one risk that many population with diabetes face

But a determination of Type 2 diabetes does not need to be a sentence of death and disability. Blood sugar levels can be treated and complications prevented.
